Anyway of using the principles of our Constitution to battle this affront to our freedoms? There is nothing in the nation's Constitution that gives the Iowa House or Senate the power to enact such a law. I doubt there is anything in the Iowa Constitution either, but this micro management of the people has to be fought back on principle. We will try to get other people to call the Senate to oppose such a bill. Thank you for your hard work.

Thanks for the thoughts Bruce and Tammy! Parents need to parent, we cannot allow the schools to assume this role.

Thank you for standing up for our rights as parents. A government powerful enough to start demanding that school districts teach these basic rules of civil society is simply adding another paid bureaucrat to its already bloated budget, not to mention imposing their agenda on schools. It is ultimately up to the parents to let their voices be heard, though and say "Enough. Enough to the lawmakers and enough to the Dept. of Ed. You cannot cross this line." The parents have this right. Yes, this is important for teens and we, the parents, are the ones to teach it. I'd suggest 10 simple laws be posted in the schools and maybe we wouldn't need all these government programs that border on the absurd.

Hey Jordan,
Thanks for coming to Maurice on Sat. You got great questions. I believe the basics of government include; safety, education, basic infrasturture, (roads) and helping those that cannot help themselves.
after being here a year, I really think we have to many legislators for the 3 million people in Iowa. I would agree we need a voice for all citizens. 20-40 days is great. Cutting pay is fine. We get $25,000 a year. This is what our county supervisors make to put things in perspective. Thanks for the e-mail! Please throw more questions at me. (Prov. 16.9)

Randy,

Given that I am very much in favor reducing the size of government I must ask you, what the "essential" services that the state government should maintain are? Also the fewer the Legislators there are, the more distant from their constituents they become. I would snuggest that you keep the 150 legislators, cut the session to 20-40 days, and all take a pay cut. (By the way, how much am I paying you guys?) Also one in the position of power must be careful not to surpass the GOD given boundaries of government. (ie how much can the civil government tax the people?)

Keep up the work,
Galatians 6:9

The Dept of Ed is definitely out of control. Thank you for standing up for what you believe in and not being intimidated by the majority party. By the way, please keep early childhood and Empowerment away from the Dept of Ed!
